The choice of site for the Calenia Energia plant was the result of a careful study based on an assessment of national and regional energy requirements, which also addressed issues such as the impact of the infrastructure on the environment and citizens.
This selection process led to the identification of a suitable site in the “ex-Pozzi" disused industrial area in Sparanise, not only on account of its excellent logistical location but also because of its “brown field” status, which enabled the plant to be built in an existing industrial context without the need to encroach on agricultural land.
The evaluation of the initiative took many aspects into consideration: the impact on the surrounding environment, the distribution of the residential population, the presence of other industries or sources of emissions, access to roads and the existence of any restrictions with regard to architecture or landscape. After all the collected data had been analysed, the site in Sparanise was identified as the most suitable to accommodate a production facility whose aim was not only to generate energy for the Italian electricity system, but also to develop synergies for local economic revitalisation, encouraging the development of related industries and facilitating the supply and provision of new investment and capital.
