From its initial conception the plant project’s main objective was to achieve high standards of environmental impact reduction.

The Kyoto Protocol commits Italy to reducing greenhouse gas emissions significantly. Combined cycle power plants such as the one at Sparanise utilise a technology that goes a long way towards helping to achieve this important goal.

The power plant of Calenia Energia is designed to achieve an overall efficiency of around 56%, a performance 40% better than that of traditional thermoelectric plants, resulting in lower emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2 (approximately 50% of those from a coal-fired plant).

Actions taken with regard to environmental protection have also focused on noise and heat pollution and the extraction of water in the Campania region. In all of these cases Calenia Energia has adopted the latest technologies, which often exceed the requirements set by law.
